Nandurbar is a Lok Sabha constituency and a municipality council in the state of Maharashtra. Nandurbar is located in the north-western corner of Maharashtra. It has a population of 1,311,709, of which 15.45% is urban. Nandurbar district is surrounded by Dhule district in the south and south-east, Gujarat in the west and north, and Madhya Pradesh in the north and north-east. The northern boundary of the district is marked by the Narmada River. This region came into the limelight during the bird flu crisis in February 2006, which affected many of its poultry farms. Thousands of chickens had to be killed and buried in nearby fields to prevent the spread of the virus. Nandurbar is a tribal-dominated region of Maharashtra. Although tribal communities have dominated the elections so far, the Maratha community also plays a decisive role here. The Nandurbar Lok Sabha seat is reserved for candidates from Scheduled Tribes. The Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency comprises six Vidhan Sabha constituencies: Akkalkuwa, Shahada, Nandurbar, Navapur, Sakri, and Shirpur.
Lakshman Vedu Valvi of the Praja Socialist Party won from here in 1957 and 1962. Nandurbar has been a favourite of the Gandhi family. Indira Gandhi began her election campaign from Nandurbar. Congress candidates have consistently won here. Even when Sonia Gandhi took over the reins of the Congress in 1998, she held her first rally in Nandurbar. From 1967 to 2009, for 42 consecutive years, Congress won 13 parliamentary elections.
2019 Mandate: BJP candidate Heena Gavit won this seat with 6,39,136 votes. KC Padvi of Congress came second with 5,43,507 votes, and Anturlikar Suresh of VBA was third with 25,702 votes. The Nandurbar Lok Sabha seat witnessed a voter turnout of 68.99%.
2014 Mandate: In the 2014 polls, Heena Gavit, representing BJP, became the youngest female MP by winning this seat for the first time. She defeated veteran Congress leader and nine-time consecutive Lok Sabha winner Manik Rao Gavit. Heena Gavit received 5,79,486 votes and Manikrao Gavit of Congress got 4,72,581 votes. BSPs Vasave Amit Sheklal came third with 12,133 votes. The voting percentage in Maharashtras Nandurbar Lok Sabha seat in 2014 was 65.52%.
